Building Department
The Building Department's main responsibility is to interpret and enforce the State Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Gas, Fire Prevention and Mechanical Codes, as well as local zoning bylaws and Architectural Access Board Regulations. Proper application of the Building Codes helps provide safe buildings and structures. Enforcement of Building Codes helps prevent property damage from perils such as fire, flood, high winds, snow loads, seismic forces from earthquakes, and most importantly, protects against injury or loss of life. The Building Department staff issue permits, inspect construction at regular intervals, and conduct periodic safety inspections of multi-family housing, restaurants, schools, religious institutions, and other places of assembly, and levy fines or prosecute when necessary to obtain code compliance.
****We have been informed by the Board of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS) that effective as early as February 1, 2023, CSL Licenses will no longer be printed or issued in current version. Please note the License Holder (not the Building Department) is responsible to upload Proof of License with the Permit Application.
