Summer 2022 Water Shortages and Discolored Water

As we head into the summer and water demand is at it the highest levels, the Water Department is working hard to maintain the water system.  We had to shut down the Harbor Trace Well in August 2021 due to high levels of PFAS in the water. This was our largest supplier of water, producing one million gallons per day, and we cannot turn it back on until the Treatment Plant is completed in the Spring 2024.  Until that time our current wells are being worked to their limit which causes discolored water at times especially from 6am to 9am and 5pm to 9pm where water demand is the greatest.  Some help is on the way with the new Main Street Well going on-line this June 2022.  This well will produce an additional 500 thousand gallons per day, which will help off-set the loss of Harbor Trace and take some of the stress off the other wells.

In the meantime, we kindly ask that the community continue the efforts to conserve water and reduce the strain on the system. This includes following the water ban put in place by DEP.

We thank you for your patience and understanding.
