5/13/2022-Discolored Water

We were made aware this morning of a significant discolored water appearance to customers’ water in the East Eide of town. This seems to be caused by a hydrant being used for fire protection which pulled in discolored water from the main break on West Meadow Rd. This, paired with the sudden increase in irrigation use in the area has caused the natural sediment in the pipe to become stirred up. This is not hazardous to your health and will dissipate as it settles back down in the pipes.

We sincerely apologize to these customers for the inconvenience. Once cleared up, customers should continue to flush internal piping by running an outside spigot at a moderate stream for an additional 20-30 minutes and flushing your hot water heater. If you have any questions, please call our office at 978-597-2212 or email us at water@townsendwater.org.

Thank you
