Planning Board

Planning Board Mission

The mission of the Planning Board is to preserve and enhance the quality of life for individual residents and the town community as a whole; to provide foresight and direction through an open, informed and inclusive public decision making process, and to ensure reasonably planned growth and development of land and its use in a manner that preserves the Town's unique rural and historic character.

Through public hearings and open meetings, the Board is responsible for reviewing applications for Subdivisions, Site Plan Review Special Permits, Approval Not Required” (ANR) Plans, and applications submitted under the “Scenic Roads Act.” The Board also serves as the Stormwater Authority to oversee the Stormwater Management Bylaw, and is in charge of updating the Town’s Master Plan. Agendas are posted on the Outdoor Public Notice Board and on the Town Web Site. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend meetings, typically held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month, or as business, holidays and schedules dictate.

Planning Board meetings are currently being held in hybrid format at 272 Main Street and remotely via Townsend Community Access Media hosted Zoom meetings.
