The June 27th Concert will be hosted Christ Church Townsend

The lawn party to be held in conjunction with the Townsend Military Band's Thursday evening, 27 June, concert on the Townsend Common will be hosted by Christ Church Townsend.

      Church members will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages with peppers and onions, chips, and soda to hungry concertgoers.  They will also have a variety of baked goods available for purchase.  Lawn games such as corn hole and Kubb will be set up on the Common which concert attendees may play.

      All profits raised at the Christ Church Townsend lawn party will be donated to Townsend Ecumenical Outreach (TEO).

      The Townsend Military Band will open its concert at 7:30 p.m. by playing Allen's “Hall of Fame March” and “Disney at the Movies” arranged by Higgins.  Yoder's arrangement of the “Al Hirt Medley”, “That Ragtime Regiment Band” by Morris, and “The Sound of Music” arranged by Bennett will be performed.  Vinson's arrangement of the “Pie in the Face Polka”, “Never Gonna Give You Up” arranged by Conaway, and “The Barnstormer March” by Brown will be included in the first portion of the program.

      Following intermission the band will play Glover's arrangement of the “Zacatecas March” and Holst's “First Suite for Band”.  “Begin the Beguine” arranged by Krance and Bocook's adaption of “Seventy Six Trombones” will be performed before the band concludes its concert at 9:30 by playing the “Star Spangled Banner”.


***July 4th Band Concert***

The Townsend Military Band will play a special Independence Day concert on the Townsend Common on Thursday evening, July 4th.   

     Area residents of all ages are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to the Common where they may sit and listen to good patriotic music while enjoying the company of friends and neighbors.

     Townsend VFW Post No. 6538 and its Auxiliary will host the lawn party to be held in conjunction with the July 4th band concert.

     Townsend VFW Post members will be selling hot dogs to hungry concertgoers.  Popcorn, bottled water, and a variety of cold soda will be offered for sale.  Food and beverages will be available from 7:00 until 9:15 p.m. or the supply runs out.

      A wide selection of homemade cookies, squares, cakes, breads, candies, and pies will be offered by VFW Auxiliary members to eat while one listens to the concert or to enjoy later.

     There will be a few activities for children at the lawn party.

     Townsend Band Stand tiles will be available for purchase.

     Concertgoers of all ages will have an opportunity to win stuffed animals and a patriotic money hat.

     The Townsend VFW Post and its Auxiliary will have a booth set up on the Common that evening where area residents may learn how the Townsend VFW Post and its Auxiliary serve Veterans and the community and whether or not they might be eligible to join the Veterans of Foreign Wars or its Auxiliary.

     The Townsend Military Band will open its Independence Day concert at 7:30 p.m. by playing “Honor the Fathers” by Buckley and Bennett's arrangement of “Victory at Sea”.   Murtha's arrangement of “Glenn Miller in Concert”, “Hootenanny” by Walters, and Murtha's arrangement of “Sweet Caroline” will be performed.  The “Jackson Five Medley” arranged by Hoshide and “The NC-4 March” by Bigelow will be included in the first portion of the concert.

     Following intermission the band will play the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” by Wihousky/Tokke and Laurendeau's arrangement of the “1812 Overture”.  “Our America” arranged by Higgins, “America the Beautiful” arranged by Dragon, and Bulla's arrangement of the “Armed Forces Tribute” will be presented.  “The Stars and Stripes Forever March” by Sousa will be performed before the band concludes its holiday concert at 9:30 by playing Key's “Star Spangled Banner”.
